Loved the honesty. Love a good hunt and YES I do not want to have the same things as everybody else, isn’t that the first reason one upgrades from Zara to luxury brands ?
Luxury items aside, this is also exactly why I struggle to buy brand new clothing of the rack from most retail brands these days. Everything is so diluted, mass and uncool to me and I don’t want to wear what everyone else is wearing. Vintage and secondhand is literally the only way for me and every time I stray I regret it!!
I love this! I’ve also been saying this about things other than luxury fashion…stylists, costume designers, media…nothing is sacred anymore. As long as it’s in an IG bio it’s real. Bring back resumes, fact checking, exclusivity…all the things that should be gate kept. I’m here for it.
Super interesting and very aligned with why I launched my new ready-to-wear line in limited, numbered editions that are never reissued. It’s an attempt to reconfigure sacredness: pieces made special both by their craftsmanship and by their scarcity. Not everyone needs to have everything, or even something similar. It’s certainly a creative challenge as a designer and an entrepreneur, but I don’t think there’s a valid reason to start anything new in this day and age unless you’re willing to critically assess the state of consumption and offer something both covetable and enduring.
When I watched you on the Morgan Stewart podcast and you girls touched the Birkin topic I was chuckling and blushing because it was me witnessing 2 tasteful rich bitches talking real smack. It’s so chic. Birkins will never go out of style. I will own one day but I promise you I wont be banal with it.
I think this is why I love both vintage and the ethos behind S&R. I love the idea of using creativity to build the fantasy world you want to live in. I’ve always appreciated how intentional your references are, and I’ve been obsessed with your collection inspired by The OC. I find inspiration in 90s and 2000s characters. Lately it’s been a lot of Rachel Green casual and Nate Archibald prep. And my moodboards will always include Sex and the City and Clueless. I love putting pieces together to build a wardrobe and feeling that is individually mine.

Fakes are also a part to blame the overexposure of luxury

I was saying "I need a Kelly bag" at the moment I saw this. The read was nothing less than kismet.
Being unapologetic is a rarity unfortunately. Cheers again Emily.
Say it for everyone else in the back again! “Rich people with bad taste is an epidemic.” It really is.
This right here. Every word! Know you are not the only one that feels this
